Since 2001 IPPBC members created approximately 4,000 person years of IPP construction employment. Additional off-site jobs provided indirect and induced employment.
There are 15 IPP projects under construction, employing about 1,000 construction workers. They are all in rural areas. They represent private sector capital investment of about $2 billion.
Hundreds more people recently worked on the environmental assessments, socio-economic evaluation, engineering design, financing, and legal aspects of the 76 projects submitted to BC Hydro’s three calls for IPP power.
